Railsplitters move to No. 14 In NABC/Division II men's basketball poll

KANSAS CITY, MO -- The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team jumped four spots to No. 14 in the first regular season NABC/Division II poll, officials announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Railsplitters opened the season at No. 18 in the poll, but LMU's 2-0 start characterized by an average winning-margin of 35 points elicited a jolt to No. 14 in the national rankings. In their two victories, the 'Splitters are pouring in an average of 85 points per contest and out-rebounding their foes by almost 10 boards per.

Lincoln Memorial kick-started the 2012-13 campaign with a 79-46 victory in Tex Turner Arena over Ohio Midwestern College. The Railsplitters boasted a balanced scoring attack, headlined by Jake Troyli's 19 points along with 13 for Lorenza Ross and 11 for Wally Jones.

The second game of the season saw the Railsplitters storm through Bob Jones University, 95-58, paced by another balanced effort on the offensive end. Four players notched double-figure scoring in that game, led by Ross with 16 points on 7-10 shooting. Tim Pierce and Chance Jones added 13 and 11 points respectively off the bench while Wally Jones poured in 11 points.

11 players are averaging more than 10 minutes of action for the Railsplitters this season. LMU is shooting at a 48.4% clip this season, while holding their opponents to only 33.7% shooting for the year.

West Libery (West Virginia) garnered 11 first place votes to take the top-spot in the first regular season NABC/Division II poll. No. 2 Washburn, No. 3 Metropolitan State, No. 4 Alabama-Huntsville and No. 5 Bellarmine rounded out the top five with Alabama-Huntsville and Bellarmine grabbing a first place vote apiece.

The Railsplitters are in action this evening as they face their first road test of the season in Nashville, Tennessee against Trevecca Nazarene University. That game is slated to tip at 8 p.m. eastern time. Click here to follow the action as the Railsplitters take on the Trojans.
