HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team is poised to start the 2012-13 season as the schedule has been revealed for the upcoming campaign, Railsplitters head coach Josh Schertz announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Railsplitters are looking to push another step closer to a NCAA Southeast Regional title along with the opportunity to compete for a National Championship. Last season, LMU capped an historic run by earning the number one national ranking before finishing the season with a 26-6 mark.
In total, the 'Splitters are slated for 26 games with 14 of those events coming in Tex Turner Arena. The season opens on November 10th when the Railsplitters play host to Ohio Mid-Western College. A week later, LMU welcomes Knoxville College to Tex Turner for a nonconference battle with the Bulldogs.
Lincoln Memorial University faces the first road test of the 2012-13 campaign on November 20th, as they head to Nashville, Tennessee to challenge Trevecca Nazarene University. The men return home on November 24th to play host to Hiwassee College.
On November 28th, the Railsplitters begin a three-game road trip by traveling to Tusculum College to open South Atlantic Conference play for the season. Newberry College awaits LMU on December 2nd for another tough road battle in SAC play. The three-game road trip is concluded on December 8th with a nonconference test with University of Virginia-Wise.
The Railsplitters complete the nonconference schedule with contests at home against King College (12/16) and Trevecca Nazarene University (1/2) and on the road against Augusta State University (12/19).
With the coming of the second half of the season, LMU will be fully entrenched in South Atlantic Conference competition. The Railsplitters travel to Mars Hill College on January 9th before coming home for a showdown with defending SAC Champions Anderson University on January 12th.
The first round of SAC play concludes with the Railsplitters hosting Brevard College (1/16), visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University (1/19), visiting Carson-Newman College (1/23), hosting Wingate University (1/26) and visiting Catawba College (2/2).
The highlights of the second portion of the campaign include a trip to Anderson University on February 16th. The Railsplitters will also face a daunting task against Carson-Newman College in Tex Turner on February 20th.
The regular season concludes on March 2nd as LMU hosts Catawba College. The Food Lion South Atlantic Tournament is notched to begin on March 6th.
