Railsplitters stand pat at No.20 In NABC/Division II coaches poll

KANSAS CITY, MO - The Railsplitters stayed put at No.20 in the NABC/Division II Coaches Poll, it was announced on Tuesday as officials with the National Association of Basketball Coaches unveiled the fifth poll of the 2013-14 season. Nonetheless, Lincoln Memorial University extended its South Atlantic Conference record streak to 47-consecutive weeks ranked in the national poll, which trails only No.1 West Liberty, No.2 Bellarmine and No.9 Southern Indiana for the longest active streak in the NCAA Division II.

LMU (7-1, 4-1 SAC) played only one game this past week, traveling to Newberry, South Carolina for a South Atlantic Conference bout against the Newberry College Wolves on Sunday. The Railsplitters used a trio of magnificent offensive performances to knock off the Wolves, 102-87. Redshirt-freshman Luquon Choice (Laurens, SC) earned Railsplitter of the Week and SAC Player of the Week distinctions after amassing a career-high 34 points on 13-of-22 shooting (eight-for-12 from three) to go along with nine boards. Seniors Vincent Bailey (Jennings, FL) and Chance Jones (Knoxville, TN) poured in 22 points apiece, and Bailey cataloged his third double-double of the year with a career-best 17 rebounds. Overall, Lincoln Memorial shot 62.9 percent (39-for-62) in the contest with a razor sharp 23-for-30 effort in its 62-point second half.

Through eight games, the Railsplitters are among the NCAA Division II leaders in a number of offensive and defensive statistical rankings. LMU is second in the nation in rebounding margin as they have out-rebounded their foes by an average of 16.6 boards per game. The Railsplitters rank 13th in the nation in field-goal percentage (52.0) while ranking 26th out of 291 teams in field-goal percentage defense (39.2). Along with those numbers, LMU is 18th in blocked shots per game (5.8), 19th in total blocks (46), 20th in scoring margin (16.5) and 32nd in scoring offense (88.3).

Lincoln Memorial University is set for its final game of the calendar year on Saturday, December 21, welcoming the University of Virginia-Wise to Tex Turner Arena for a 4 p.m. non-conference bout.
