INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The NCAA announced the selections for the 2012 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship on Sunday evening, and the Railsplitters are dancing as they drew the No. 4 seed in the Southeast Region. They will square off against the No. 5 seed, King College, out of Conference Carolinas on March 10th in Montevallo, Alabama.
The Railsplitters received an at-large bid after falling in the semi-finals of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament to eventual champs, Wingate University. Lincoln Memorial University was ranked 17th in the latest NABC poll and currently sit with a 25-5 record for the season. King College also received an at-large bid after losing in the semi-finals of the Conference Carolinas Tournament and come into the the game with a 23-7 season mark.
The Railsplitters and Tornado are no strangers to each other as they met twice throughout the regular season with LMU taking the season sweep. In the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge, the first game went to the Railsplitters in Tex Turner Arena as LMU captured a 75-69 victory. King College held the lead as late as 4:40 in the contest but the Railsplitters pulled away late to secure the win.
On December 17th, the matchup moved to Bristol, Tennessee for the second game of the season season. In a tightly contested game, the Railsplitters never trailed in the second half as they ran away with a hard fought 77-75 victory. The Tornado cut the score to one with 48 seconds left but the Railsplitters went 4-4 from the charity stripe down the stretch to collect the win.
This is Lincoln Memorial University's second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid as last season the Railsplitters drew the No. 2 seed where they were downed by eventual region champs, Anderson University, in the opening round.
