MOREHEAD, Ky. - Rebecca Moran, who led Belhaven (Miss.) to its first two NAIA National Tournament berths as a student-athlete, has joined the Morehead State softball staff as an assistant coach. Moran will serve as the program's pitching coach.
"I believe (Head) Coach (David) Williams has a great vision for the program, and I am grateful for the opportunity he has given me to coach in the Ohio Valley Conference," Moran said. "I am very excited to be a part of the Morehead State softball family."
Moran served as volunteer assistant at Ball State in 2014, where she helped guide the Cardinals to a 33-19 mark.
"I am very excited to have Rebecca join our staff," Williams said. "Her passion and energy for the game of softball is infectious. I am anxious to start practice in the fall and to see her work with the pitching staff."
She was a graduate assistant at her alma mater in 2012 and 2013, serving as pitching coach. Belhaven was 38-14 in 2013, including an 18-9 conference mark. Her pitching staff totaled 283 strikeouts and fashioned a 2.01 ERA. The Blazers advanced to the NAIA National Tournament and finished 13th in the final coaches poll.
Moran tallied a 25-7 mark in the circle for Belhaven in 2010 and 2011. She helped her team to a combined 104-22 record, winning the 2010 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference title. Belhaven finished third at the NAIA National Tournament in 2011 and sixth in 2010.
She began her collegiate career at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez, Miss. She was 29-9 in two seasons and was tabbed First-Team All-Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) in 2009. She led the Wolfpack to two MACJA Southern Division and state Championships and a runner-up finish at the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament.
Moran has competed internationally for American Sports Tours. She pitched against the Czech Republic National Team, Austrian National Team and United States National Team.
She graduated from Belhaven in 2011. Moran is married to Marq Moran, and the couple has one son, Aiden. Her maiden name is Rousseau.
