Austin, TX - Texas Governor Rick Perry may be just days away from announcing his candidacy for the Presidency, but comments he recently made about college football are getting just as much attention.
According to the Dallas News, Perry told a reporter who asked about the possibility of the Texas A&M Aggies joining the SEC the following: ""I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there."
The simple phrase ""As far as I know, conversations are being had" was enough to light the internet on fire with talk about the Tide, Tigers, Tennessee and others rolling through College Station in the near future. After the frantic realignment this past off season involving the Big 12, something like Texas A&M joining the SEC doesn't seem far-fetched.
ESPN.com opinion makers say it's really only a matter of time before the SEC expands.
Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe told the Austin American Statesman that he's taking A&M's future "Very seriously" telling the paper that "I've been doing that and dealing with this firestorm at the same time,.. I'll put it this way, I'm taking it very seriously. I've been talking to a number of people. Obviously, there are a significant number of Aggie supporters who are interested in going in that (SEC) direction
