Barbourville, Kentucky- The UVa-Wise softball team picked up its first win of the year with a 6-2 win over the Union College Bulldogs in game one of a double header on Thursday. The Cavs opened up with three runs in the first inning as Kristina Romualdo blasted three run home run. After the homerun, the Cavs never looked back as Romualdo went a perfect 4-4 on the in the game with three RBI.
Senior designated player Ashlee Washburn went 2-4 with two RBI in game while sophomore pitcher Kaylla Holdway went the distance and gave up two runs on six hits to pick up the win.
In game two, it was the Bulldogs who jumped out to an early lead as the Cavs surrendered six runs in the first three innings in a 7-3 loss. Sophomore third baseman Megan Dillion was a bright spot in game two as she drove in two runs for UVa-Wise while sophomore Sarah Wiltshire and junior Kristen Velazquez each posted two hits.
UVa-Wise will return to action on Saturday when they travel host to Virginia Intermont. The double header is set to being at 1:00 p.m.
