LICK CREEK, Ky. (WYMT) - WYMT continues its Roundball Previews with a look at head coach Randy McCoy and his East Ridge Warriors.
The boys of Lick Creek (Ky.) advanced to the 15th Region semifinals in Mccoy's first year at the helm, and if they are to make it further and ultimately play in the Sweet 16 they all agree they must execute better in big game situations and close out opponents when they have the chance.
"But the biggest thing, I hope maturity will allow us to understand that you have to finish what you start," says McCoy who is entering his second year as East Ridge head coach. "It's not a one quarter, two quarter, three quarter game, and I always tell them, 'Get the job done in four quarters or however long it takes.' And that's what we've got to understand."
"Our expectations every year are to get to the 15th Region championship," adds junior guard Johnny Miller. "My freshman year we were runner-up. Last year we made it to the semifinals. So yeah, our expectation is to try and win it this year."
"A lot of hard work. A lot of hard work," says Patrick Coleman, a senior forward. "It's a long season."
Adds junior forward Christian Hagy, "I think the experience is going to help us in the big games. We couldn't close out a lot of games last year and I think the experience overall is going to help us out closing those big games."
"I won't be satisfied with nothing less than a 15th Region championship. I want to go to Rupp Arena. It's my senior year and I want to go to Rupp," says senior Josh Thacker.
The Warriors open their season on December 3rd at home versus Grundy, Virginia.
