PAINTSVILLE, Ky (WYMT) - As the high school basketball season creeps closer, we look now at the Johnson Central Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles have a brand new head coach in Darrin Rice, who coached previously at district rival Sheldon Clark.
Johnson Central finished a disappointing 14-16 last season, and looking into this season the girls say they are excited about playing for Coach Rice.
Coach Rice talks about his excitement level heading into this season, "I love teaching on the court in practice, I enjoy seeing them work hard, I enjoy talking basketball and trying to teach them things they didn't know, or at least teaching them different types to do something, Coach Cochran did a wonderful job as far as fundamentals with these girls."
Senior Forward Rachel Hall says she's excited to fulfill her duties as a leader, "He's helped me become a leader and actually work hard and realize my talent that I actually have."
"The strengths are going to be that we're going to be very athletic in every, we have a bench that is very athletic, a lot of players that can actually play basketball," says Sophomore Guard Lauren Delong.
Sophomore Guard Jayla Spurlock discusses their district, "It's a very tough district, one of the toughest districts around, last year we should have beaten Magoffin County and I mean we weren't as good last year as we are this year and I think we can beat them this year."
