Roundball Preview: Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers

SOMERSET, Ky. (WYMT) -- The Somerset girls basketball team posted a 13-18 record last year, but head coach Erin Walker believes this year's team has more firepower.

"We have a lot of speed,” Walker said. “And we're not very tall...but we have a lot of guards. Everybody can handle the ball. From my one to my five, they can get the ball, the board and go.

Somerset is two years removed from a 12th region All-A Championship. This season, the Lady Jumpers are looking to return to title form.

“We've all came together as a family. Like they are my sisters,” Madison Brooks, a senior forward, said. “I call them my sisters. In everything I do, I make them practice hard because, this being my senior year, I want it to come out great and I want us to make it to the sweet 16 and everything and I want everybody to give it their all and that's all I ask for.”

“We have a lot of energy,” senior forward Virginia Scott said. “We all like to work really hard and we all like to push each other. We don't take it easy on each other in practice. We make it as hard as we can. We guard each other like we're Southwestern's opponents or our rivals. We just want to make each other the best that we can be.”
