Rude to continue as assistant football coach at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Brett Rude, who has been on the Morehead State football staff the past two seasons, will continue as an assistant coach. He will once again lead the tight ends and assist with the offensive line in 2013.

“Brett is a valuable resource to us, both on and off the field,” Head Coach Rob Tenyer said. “He is certainly knowledgeable when it comes to coaching his position, and he is capable of coordinating many of the administrative duties that are so important to the success of our program.”

Rude served as a graduate assistant in 2011 and 2012, while working on a master’s degree in adult & higher education at Morehead State.

During the 2011 campaign, MSU ranked among Football Championship Subdivision schools in first downs (1st, 25.2), total yards (2nd, 478.9) and passing yards (2nd, 358.2). The Eagles also led the Pioneer Football League in scoring (36.1).

During the 2012 season, MSU placed among the national leaders in scoring (6th, 38.4), total yards (6th, 471.5), passing yards (7th, 305.4) and third-down conversions (7th, 51%). The Eagles also set 12 individual school records on offense.

“Brett worked hard for our program the past two years and deserves this opportunity,” Tenyer said. “His familiarity with our student-athletes and people across this campus will be a wonderful resource for our coaches who have never previously worked at Morehead State.”

Rude came to MSU after serving as a graduate assistant at NAIA school Concordia University (Mich.), where he was responsible for coaching the defensive line, player evaluations, film coordinating and recruiting.

Rude earned four letters as an offensive and defensive lineman at Division III school Albion College (Mich.) from 2006-09. He was named team captain as a senior and went on to serve as a student assistant coach.

A native of Waterford, Mich., Rude earned a bachelor’s degree in economics & business management from Albion in 2010 and finished his master's degree at MSU in 2012.
