Second-Half Surge Sends No. 19 IUS Past Union

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Host and No. 19 Indiana Southeast used a strong offensive push to close out the game to rally for a 71-59 win over Union on Tuesday.

The loss drops Union to 4-2 on the year, while IUS improves to 4-3.

With 8:30 remaining, Alyson Roberts (Baxter, Tenn.) drained a 3-pointer to put Union up 54-45. However, IUS regrouped and reeled off 14 consecutive points for a 59-54 lead at the 3:15 mark. Megan Murphy scored five of her 12 points during the rally.

A Lindsey Waters (Stearns, Ky.) bucket pulled Union within three points with 2:53 to play. Yet, IUS scored 12 of the final 15 points to seal the 71-59 decision.

Waters finished with her fourth double-double of the season with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Amber Taylor (Clinton, Tenn.) helped out with 12 points and seven assists.

Ashmere Woods led IUS with 17 points, while Murphy hauled in 17 rebounds to go with her 12 points. Heather Wheat chipped in 10 points.

Up next for Union is its home opener when the Lady Bulldogs play host to Berea (Ky.) Saturday at 4 p.m.
