JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) -- Johnson Central senior forward Shane Hall signed his letter of intent Wednesday morning in the library, as he is headed to Marshall next year.
“It was a hard decision because I like Northern Kentucky and they have been recruiting me for a couple of years,” Hall, who is the third-ever Johnson Central basketball player to sign a Division I scholarship, said. “And then Marshall, I didn't really talk to them a lot but once I got with them, they were like close to home and so I decided to go there.”
Head coach Tommy McKenzie was as happy as Hall was inside the Johnson Central library, where the signing took place Wednesday morning.
“I'm extremely excited,” McKenzie said. “We knew Shane's capability coming in before he signed a Division I basketball scholarship, but I think the ultimate thing for him is the signing itself is over. I think a lot of that played on his mind the last couple of years.”
“When he was a freshman and sophomore, he was young, getting his feet wet in the whole recruiting process -- he and his family -- and I think last year, maybe some of that got to him just a little bit. I think he got just bogged down with it a lot with the phone calls and the emails and the conversations he was having and the visits he was taking. So for this to finally be over with and for him to pick Marshall, in the end, it is going to be great. Going into this season, I think he’s going to play with a lot of weight off of his shoulders.
