Our DQ Grill and Chill Pigskin Previews continue on as we head to Martin County to spotlight the Sheldon Clark Cardinals. A team looking to run past the competition in 2011.
The Cardinals are coming off a 6 and 6 season...this year...they're looking for more with a ton of talent in the backfield...and a team full of speedy guys...
“We're strong up front, our kids have worked really hard, but this is one of the fastest teams I've coached,” Coach Shawn Hager says. “And you know, I didn't realize it until coming into this season, and out here practicing, we have some kids that can run, so we're hoping we can utilize that a little bit.”
“Speed, we've got tons of speed, and our offensive line is just monstrous in the weight room,” Senior Running Back Kristian Skyles says.
“I have high expectations for our team,” Offensive Lineman Taylor Chapman says. “I think we're going to do a lot better than we did last year, and getting beat in the second round of the playoffs is not something I want to do my senior year.Go out, I mean, we have a lot of speed this year. We have a lot of kids working hard, and I think we're going to be a good team this year.”
With the addition of Tim Smith...who rushed for almost 2,000 yards and got to the endzone 16 times on the ground last season at Shelby Valley...Sheldon Clark could make noise in the district...but if they do...it will take a lot of hard work...
“We graduated seventeen last year off our roster, everybody knows that that's a lot, but our group coming back has worked really hard in the weight room, and they're out here on the field working hard, Hager says. “So we're just hoping that it pays off and the early part of our schedule is Rockcastle, and Prestonsburg, and those games will help us see where we need to get before we get into district play.”
Rockcastle County is up first...on August 20th.
