Smith tabbed to All-AAC second team

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Union College guard Tarik Smith has been named to the 2012-13 All-Appalachian Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball second team, the league announced on Wednesday.

Overall, Tennessee Wesleyan’s E’Jay Ward was named the Conference’s Player of the Year, after leading TWC to the league’s regular season crown.

Smith, a junior, led the Bulldogs in the scoring department from the start this season, ending the regular season averaging 17.2 points a contest.

In all, Smith scored in double-digits in 20 of the 26 games he played in on the year, pouring in a season-best 29 points in an 89-83 win over Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) on Nov. 2. Smith also scored over 20 points on 11 times, while leading the team in field goal percentage (.452) and three point field goal percentage (.442).

Smith and the rest of the Bulldogs open the 2013 AAC Men’s Basketball Tournament tomorrow night at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn. The sixth-seed, UC takes on third-seed Bryan (Tenn.) beginning at 9:15 p.m.
