WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - University of the Cumberlands Baseball Coach Brad Shelton has announced the signing of Cameron Smith, a right handed pitcher from Whitefield Academy in Louisville, Kentucky.
Cameron is another talented freshman in the incoming class. Smith had an outstanding high school career at Whitefield. He holds school records for career wins (19), career strikeouts (244), career ERA (2.78) and season strikeouts (99). As a junior, Smith posted an 8-3 record with a 1.91 ERA. As a senior he was 8-3 with 2 saves and a 2.16 ERA. Cameron pitched a complete game no hitter as a sophomore at Whitefield.
He was named to the All District Tournament team in his sophomore and junior seasons, All 26th District Team as a junior, and All Region Team following his junior and senior seasons. He played in the 7th Region All Star Game following his junior and senior seasons and was a member of the Kentucky East/West All Star team in 2011 and 2012. Cameron is currently playing summer baseball for the prestigious Evansville Razorbacks, a college prep traveling baseball team based in Evansville, Indiana.
Coach Shelton commented about signing Smith, "Cameron is a player who has had success in a strong region (7th) of Kentucky high school baseball. He has also played on an elite travel team, so the competition he has faced has been excellent. We believe he has the stuff to get college hitters out. He has the ability to locate a couple of quality pitches. He has some velocity and we believe that can increase as he develops. We are excited that he is joining our program."
