HARROGATE, TN -- The Lincoln Memorial University softball team is set to open the 2012 season tomorrow afternoon as they host Milligan College for opening day. The first of the 2012 campaign is set for 2 p.m. at Dorothy Neely Field.
The Lady Railsplitters are looking to build on their 29-24 record last season where they finished as one of the final four teams in the SAC Tournament. Lincoln Memorial was exceptionally strong at home as they posted a 19-9 record within the confines of Dorothy Neely Field.
Preseason All-Conference selections Brianna Mulkey, a first-team selection, and senior Bridget Eicher, a second team selection, will be expected to the lead the Lady Railsplitters throughout the season. Last season, Mulkey batted .361 with 56 hits and a .421 on-base percentage. She led the South Atlantic Conference with 39 steals, finishing ten steals ahead of the closer competitor.
Eicher will provide substantial power and run-production as she hit .295 with seven homeruns, 29 RBIs, and a .496 slugging percentage.
The Lady Railsplitters will be welcoming the addition of four new players for the 2012 roster as well as new assistant coach, Jennifer Connell, a graduate of Georgetown University.

On Friday, the Lady Railsplitters host Milligan College for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Bellarmine University will travel to LMU for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
