Somerset knows competition is tough late in season

SOMERSET, Ky. (WYMT) - In order for No. 8 Somerset to advance to the class 2A state finals next week, they will need to get by the Thoroughbreds of Newport Central Catholic.

Briar Jumper head coach Robbie Lucas knows that at this point in the season there are no easy games, and that his team will be going up against a very good football team come Friday night.

"They block. They tackle. They run extremely well. They're well-coached. They have athletes. They have good size up front. They're just a very well put together football team," says Lucas. "When you get to this part in the season, we talked as a coaching staff, you're not going to play a bunch of people that can't play. The people that are left here can play. They're very good football players, very good football coaches, and we're just happy that we're a part of that."
