Our DQ Grill and Chill Pigskin Previews resumes with the South Laurel Cardinals who are using a winless 2010 as motivation to bounce back this season.
South Laurel is eager to put 2010 behind them and move the program forward In 2011.
After a winless season, there is a new attitude on this team and they expect that to carry over on the field.
“Down on our board in the weight room this year we had 0-10, no excuses,” Senior Tight End Travis Burns says. “We've seen that everyday to push and drive and help us become a better team.”
“We just get out here and work as hard as we can work and come out and give 110 percent everyday and get better each and every day,” Senior Wide Receiver Josh Brown says.
South has plenty of returning lineman this season. They expect boys up front to help get the skill position players in the open field and put points on the board.
“We've just got to block up front,” Senior Lineman Dalton Murray says. “We've got to pass the ball successfully, run the ball successfully and defensively we just have to keep doing what we've been doing and get stops on third and fourth down and not let big plays happen.”
“We've got to work as a team this year instead of being individuals and try to get everybody on the same page with everything,” Senior Lineman Tyler Jones says.
Cardinals Coach Larry Welch believes in his players. Welch wants them to have fun playing for the Red and Black but to also establish the winning tradition once again at South Laurel.
“Establish a team effort and establish the fact that you come out and compete every week and you come out on top and when you don't come out on top you find the reasons and you learn from them,” Welch says.
The Cardinals will return to the gridiron in the Pioneer Bowl August 19th against Lynn Camp.
