LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Justin Epperson scored 18 points for
Southwestern as the Warriors used a 26-3 run to defeat Hopkinsville
52-41 in the first round of the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen basketball
tournament.
Hopkinsville (32-3) jumped out to a 17-8 lead, but turned the
ball over nine times during the second quarter as the Warriors
(28-8) closed the first half with a 12-0 run.
Justin Edwards recorded a double-double for Southwestern,
finishing with a 12-point, 10-rebound effort.
The Tigers entered the game riding a 15-game win streak and
pulled to 41-35 with 3:14 remaining but Southwestern managed to
hang on for the win.
Hopkinsville was led Jordan Majors with 18 points. The Tigers
hit 15-of-53 shot attempts (28 percent) and had 25 turnovers. The
Warriors face Rowan County (26-7) at noon Friday in quarterfinal
action.
