Stapleton leads Blackcats to All 'A' quarterfinals

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - For the third consecutive season, the Prestonsburg baseball team will be playing in the All 'A' state tournament in Lexington.

The Blackcats beat Bath County Thursday night 5-2 behind the pitching effort of senior Trey Stapleton, who also helped the cause at the plate with two RBI. After the game, head coach Shane Simpkins talked about Stapleton's performance.

"A very slow start from him. Usually he comes out and fills the zone full of strikes. I think the atmosphere, him knowing it's his last year and knowing him getting to pitch at home in the All 'A' Sectionals for a chance for us to get back to Lexington and play in the All 'A' State Tournament, I think he was a little hyped up," says Stapleton. "Then, he settled in the second inning. I kind of left it up to him how long he wanted to go. We had two guys ready to go there towards the end, but I just left it up to him and he wanted to finish."
