WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Women’s Golf team is coming off a big win at the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Spring Tournament last week. The team is beginning to come together as a whole and peaking at the right time. One particular Patriot has been on a roll as of late and for her efforts, she earned the MSC Golfer of the Week Award.
Liz Stephens (Tockington, Bristol UK) was named the MSC Golfer of the Week on Monday April 9th. This is the 2nd time this season that Stephens has earned the award as she also won the honor back on March 26th. This is also the third time that a Patriot has won the award this season with only 5 awards being given.
Shooting back to back rounds of 76, Stephens won the MSC Spring Tournament on the third playoff hole against Katie White of Campbellsville to come away with the victory. The tournament win is her second straight individual tournament victory as she also won the Southeastern Kentucky Intercollegiate (SEKI) Tournament back on March 23rd.
Stephens led the Patriots to a two-day total of 616 (307-309) and the tournament's team title. With the win, Cumberlands wrapped up the MSC regular season championship.
The Patriots will be back in action on April 14th and 15th as they travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to participate in the Bash at the Beach Tournament being held at LPGA International. The next women's golfer of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, April 16.
