LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - Saturday will be the first time Mark Stoops has played against Florida as Kentucky's head football coach but it won't be the first time he has coached against the Gators.
Having spent time with the Miami and Florida State, Stoops has a 4-1 record versus the Gators, but also says this year's Florida team is as good a team that he's coached against in his career.
"Not too much, really. They want to be physical. They're very good defensively; as good as maybe anybody will play this year," says Stoops. So very good, very talented very physical defensively and offensively, the same thing. They want to control the football, keep the time of possession and be physical in the run game, and, again, take their shots off of that."
Stoops and the Wildcats will welcome in the No. 20 Florida Gators this weekend for their Southeastern Conference opener. The gators won their conference opener last weekend against Tennessee. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 7:00 pm and the game can be seen live on ESPN U. Kentucky has suffered 26 consecutive losses to the Gators. UK's last win was back in 1986, a 10-3 win in Lexington.
