Stoops, staff trying to change perception of UK football

HAZARD, Ky. Joining John Calipari and Matthew Mitchell in Perry County on Thursday was Kentucky football coach Mark Stoops, who has really energized the program in just a few months on the job.

Stoops was able to get the 2013 recruiting class up to 29th nationally and his 2014 class is currently in the top five, but he says the hard part is helping recruits forget about the recent struggles and that the program can return to its winning ways.

"Well, there's just a lot of work to do," says Stoops. "I think everybody remembers the last couple of years and we've struggled on the field, and that's the biggest thing. With the young kids, with the young players, and the recruits, they tend to notice the past couple of years. So that's been the hardest thing, to let them know that we have won here before. Maybe not at the levels that we want to win at and as consistent as we want to win but Kentucky football has won and we need to get that word out there that that's what we plan on doing."
