Tanner Broughton inks with UC

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - About four weeks ago Union College announced Kevin Burton as its new men's basketball coach and he hasn't wasted any time recruiting local talent. Barbourville's Tanner Broughton managed to live out his dream of making it to the next level as he signed to play for the Bulldogs next season.

"It feels good to fulfill one of my dreams," Broughton said. "I would like to win a title for Union and just keep progressing. Maybe one day I could play a little pro ball somewhere."

Burton admitted he is excited to sign Broughton.

"I really like his ability level," he said. "He was a really high level player in high school. I think with his ability and basketball intelligence he is going to be able to translate that to the college game."

Burton realizes there is a learning curve for players during their freshman year of college, but he feels like Broughton has all of the tools to make the adjustment.

"I think he has a really nice instinct for the game," Burton said. "There might be a little bit of a learning curve, but hopefully he comes in and is ready right away. We're just excited that he's going to be with us and is going to be one of the guys that we're going to be counting on."

Union was a good fit for Broughton because he wanted to stay close to home.

"They have a new coach and I've heard a lot of good things about him," Broughton said. "But mainly I wanted to stay at home. I guess I'm a home body. I guess I've always had it in the back of my head that I would like to play for Union one day."
