HARROGATE, TN -- Tawny Tucci has signed on to play basketball for the Lady Railsplitters next season, Lincoln Memorial University head women's basketball coach Roger Hodge announced Wednesday mornining. The addition of Tucci brings the Lady Railsplitters recruiting total to eight at this juncture as the signings of Jasmine Kelly, Elliotte Roberts, Haley Nelson, Britney Guy, Kortnay Cox, Stevie Yazzie and Kalasia Green were announced in the previous weeks.
Tawny Tucci comes to the Lady Railsplitters' program by way of Elmhurst, Illinois and York Community High School. At 5'7" and playing the guard, Tucci filled the stat sheet in her final prep season, as she compiled averages of 12.2 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals per contest. Tawny received several accolades throughout the season and at the conclusion as she was twice named Pioneer Press Player of the Week along with garnering a 2012 All-West Suburban Conference First Team selection. She has also proven herself to be a leader on and off the court as she was named a team captain.
"I know a lot of kids throw around the phrases like 'high basketball IQ', 'very coachable player', and 'strong work ethic', but these phrases are right on when describing Tawny," commented Dan Thomas, Program Director of G Force Travel Basketball. "Tawny, in my opinion, has been the best overall player we have had since the inception of our organization."
She boasts a strong academic reputation as she was a member of the West Suburban Senior Academic Team and the National Honor Society. Tucci will look to continue her academic career at LMU with her sights set on earning a Pre-Med degree.
Lady Railsplitters' head coach Roger Hodge spoke highly of Tawny, stating, "I am very happy that we are able to add Tawny to our team. In watching Tawny play, her competitive spirit is what first caught my eye. Not only is she very skilled, but she plays hard and has solid instincts. I love her versatility which will give her the opportunity to play multiple positions in our scheme. With over a 3.7 grade point average, she is the type of student that will represent our program at the highest level in the classroom as well as on the court. I look forward to Tawny Tucci being a great contributor to Lady Splitter Basketball!"
Tawny will be joining a Lady Railsplitters' squad that recorded the first winning season for the program since the 2004-05 season. Falling only two games out of the top-three in the SAC last season, expectations are building as the Lady Railsplitters move forward into the second year of the Roger Hodge era with their sights set on the South Atlantic Conference crown and beyond.
