PIKEVILLE, Ky. – It may be the only time in his collegiate career that Marquis Terrell returns to his home state of Georgia. If that proves to be the case, it will be one he’ll always remember.
The 5-8, 165-pound freshman from Hogansville amassed 134 kickoff return yards with a touchdown to earn MSC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
The returner averaged 33.5 yards per kickoff return, including an 84-yard return for a score open the second half against No. 21 Shorter University.
Shorter, the only Mid-South Conference team in Georgia, announced last week it had been accepted for membership into NCAA Div. II, meaning it could be a while before Terrell and the Bears make a return to his home area.
Terrell also returned a 32-yard kickoff from the endzone to set up UPike’s final drive which ended with a blocked field goal attempt and Shorter touchdown in the 29-21 loss.
For the season, Terrell is averaging 18.5 yards per kickoff return with the one touchdown.
