PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A standout at Owsley County High School has signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Pikeville.
Peyton Wright will join the women’s basketball team this fall and continue her educational opportunities at UPIKE.
Wright is a 6-0 forward who scored 2,495 points in her career at Owsley County. She also had 1,095 rebounds, 370 steals and 353 blocked shots.
A three-time All-14th Region selection, Wright recently tried out for the prestigious Kentucky/Indiana all-star series. She was the 2012 14th Region Player of the Year as selected by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches, was a four-time all-tournament team pick in the district and was the District 56 defensive player of the year.
Wright helped the Lady Owls to four consecutive winning seasons as they compiled 70 wins in her career. They have played in the three most recent 14th Region All “A” Classic championship games, having won the title in 2010 and 2012.
The team has also made two trips to the 14th Region tournament during her career.
