Three Eagles earn weekly honors

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Senior Donte Sawyer and sophomores Rees Macshara and Cyrus Strahm picked up weekly football honors for the Morehead State football team following its 76-24 win over Valparaiso on Saturday.

Sawyer, a wide receiver from Acworth, Ga., and Strahm, a specialist from Carey, Ohio, were named Co-Special Teams Players of the Week by the Pioneer Football League. The duo paired up for a kick-off return in which Strahm lateralled the ball to Sawyer, who ran it back 85 yards for a touchdown. Strahm finished the contest with three returns for 40 yards.

Sawyer also picked up College Sports Madness Offensive Player of the Week honors, College Football Performance Awards Wide Receiver of the Week and CFPA National Kick-off Returner of the Week honors. He finished with six receptions for a career-high 186 yards and four total touchdowns against the Crusaders.

Macshara, a running back from Danville, Ky., was named CFPA Running Back of the Week. He posted a career-best 211 yards and became the first Eagle since 2000 to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a season.

The Eagles finished 2012 with a 4-7 overall record and were 2-5 in the PFL.
