HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) -- The Harlan County Lady Black Bears fell short, losing to Corbin in the 2012-13 regional semifinals -- a four point loss they want to forget.
"I know losing hurts everyone and I think that in the offseason we have worked really hard fixing and perfecting little things, and if we crash the boards and just fight as a team and be the agressor, we will come out as a victor," senior guard Lauren Lee said.
Losing the region has been the motivating factor during the offseason.
"Seeing our seniors lose in the semifinals, I do not want to fell like that this year and I know they do not, so that pushes us," senior guard Kaitlyn Stittums said.
"Knowing that this is my last shot at winning district and winning region, it's just pushing me even harder," senior forward Shannon Shackleford said.
Head coach Anthony Nolan has seen progress throughout practice so far, but sees weakness to fix.
"We still got to continue to work on rebounding a little bit more. We have got to work on, transition has been a big focus for us this year because we got to do a better job of defending in transition and also scoring in transition. I think being in the Mountain Classic this year has been a motivation for our kids. We have got a really tough schedule, probably the toughest since we consolidated. I know that we will be challenged. We play a lot of really good teams, especially a lot of really good teams from around the mountains from other regions so I think that will pay off come March."
