SOMERSET, Ky (WYMT) - The Southwestern Warriors are coming off a 22-9 season in 2012, but an early exit from the 12th region tournament left a bad taste in their mouth.
Senior Forward Justin Edwards reflected back on last season, and how have motivates them moving forward, “We kind of had a let down toward the end of the year last year. We did have a good season overall, we took a lot from it, our guys coming together and I think we've learned a lot from it, and been working hard since then.”
Junior Guard Adam Isaacs talked about what they learned from losing early, “It was a learning experience for all of us losing in the first round of region, just a hard way to go out. We didn't think we were going to lose, just a good learning experience for us.”
To make this season different from the last one, the Warriors say they need to stay focused and work hard in practice day in and day out.
“Where we've lost players, I feel like we have a certain edge to come out and prove everybody we're still good and we can be a top contender in the region.” Said Senior Center John Perkins.
Southwestern beat Wayne County in the 48th District Championship Game last season. For the Warriors, winning the district would build their momentum heading into the 12th Region Tournament.
Junior Center Dylan Gaskins talked about the 12th Region, “Our region has a lot of tough competitors in it. They work just as hard as we do everyday. We just have to come out and show them that we work harder.”
The Warriors begin their season December 3rd at Danville.
