WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Football Patriots are just two weeks away from starting preseason camp in Williamsburg. With a new head coach in Matt Rhymer, many new assistants, and 20 seniors graduating, it will be the dawning of a new era in the program. After an exceptional 2013 season, the Patriots return looking to keep their post as one of the nation’s elite. Some key players return as well as they look to lead this Patriot team to another great year and are being recognized nationally.
Senior linebacker Robert McCormick (Louisville, Ky.) and senior defensive lineman Zack Bull (McDonough, Ga.) were named to the 2014 Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) Preseason All-American Football team. Both men were named to the 1st team defense as they look to continue their stellar careers this season.
McCormick was a staple in the Patriots’ second line of defense. He totaled 35 tackles (15 solo) last year with 4 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and 1 fumble recovery. Bull was a terror on the defensive line for UC in 2013. He accumulated 40 tackles (13 solo) with 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass breakup, and 2 fumble recoveries.
The 2014 CDFL All-American Teams were selected by the “D2 vs. NAIA Challenge” Bowl committee and the 2015 “Team America” coaching staff. It is based upon player nominations and evaluations made by college coaches, college sports information directors, regional scouts, and media personnel. The CDFL is honored to showcase the 2014 preseason All-American players and to sponsor the annual “D2 vs. NAIA Challenge" to be held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday, December 20, 2014. The selected players are on the watch list for invitation to this game.
The Patriots will open up their 2014 season on the road this year as they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on the Cumberland University Bulldogs on September 6th. Kickoff is set for 2:30 pm eastern time.
