LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Georgetown junior Kourtney Tyra is the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The weekly conference honor is Tyra's third this season and of her career. She also earned the award on Jan. 14 and Jan. 28.
Tyra led the Tigers to a pair of Mid-South road wins last week while averaging 21.5 points, five rebounds and seven assists per game.
The McKee, Ky., guard helped the Tigers claim second place in the MSC standings with an 83-68 win at No. 16 Campbellsville on Thursday night. Tyra scored 18 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out eight assists in the win.
On Saturday, Tyra made 9-of-15 shots, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range to help Georgetown to a 92-75 win at Lindsey Wilson. She finished the game with 25 points and six assists -- which moved her into a first-place tie on the all-time Georgetown assists list with 435.
For the week, Tyra shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the floor, including 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from beyond the 3-point arc. She was 5-for-7 from the free throw line.
Tyra leads the Mid-South and the NAIA averaging 6.8 assists per contest. She ranks second in the conference in 3-point percentage (40.3) and eighth in scoring (14.9 points per game).
No. 18-ranked Georgetown improves to 20-8 overall and 14-5 in the MSC with last week's wins.
The next women's basketball player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, March 4.
