WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Baseball program is currently prepping themselves for another successful season in 2013-14. The Patriots had a great fall and continue to work hard in the weight room during the offseason as they look to make a mark in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). Earlier this week, the conference officials announced the MSC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The Patriots were picked #6 in the MSC garnering 34 voting points. The Bulldogs of Cumberland University earned the nod as #1 in the MSC Preseason Poll earning 80 total voting points including 8 of 10 first place votes. Lindsey Wilson followed in 2nd with 69 total points and 1 first place vote. Georgetown came in at #3 with 67 total points while Campbellsville was 4th with 59 total points and the final first place vote. St. Catharine was dubbed 5th just ahead of the Patriots with 46 total points. Rounding out the poll was Shawnee State (#7), Rio Grande (#8), Bluefield (#9), and Pikeville (#10).
The Patriots finished the 2012-13 regular season 6th in the conference going 33-19 on the year and 10-11 in MSC play. Unfortunately, the Patriots had a short appearance in the Mid-South Conference Tournament losing game 1 to Lindsey Wilson 6-2 and their elimination game to Georgetown 13-7.
The Patriots will begin their season on the road on February 1st as they travel to Union College for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
