This past week the University of the Cumberlands (UC) senior pitcher Jason Rodriguez (Corpus Christi, TX) had an outstanding game on the mound that was unmatched by anyone else in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). For his efforts and hard work, Rodriguez was named the MSC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending February 26th.
On Saturday, February 25th, going into game 4 of the series the Patriots had lost two straight and were looking for someone to rally them. They didn’t need to search far as Rodriguez took the hill because it was lights out for the Rochester College bats. He was able to put together a complete game shutout going all 7 innings allowing no runs on 4 hits with 7 strikeouts. There was never a legitimate scoring opportunity for the Warriors as the Patriots took the game 6-0.
On the season, Rodriguez has pitched in 4 games, 3 starts, including back to back complete game shutouts. He has a perfect 2-0 record on the season with a 2.57 ERA. In only 21 innings, the crafty lefty has already compiled 25 strikeouts.
The Patriots are back in action today as they host #12 Union College with game time set for 2:30 pm. Then on Friday, March 2nd, UC will host West Virginia Tech for a four game weekend series. Games on Friday are set for 1:00 pm and games on Saturday are set to start at noon.
On Friday the Patriots will hold the inaugural Cancer Awareness Day at the ball park to honor all those that have had to battle this terrible disease or are currently battling it now. Everyone is encouraged to come out and show their support.
