LEXINGTON, Ky. – In the final Mid-South Conference regular-season event of the season, both the University of Pikeville men’s and women’s bowling teams took first place at the Thomas N. Burris Memorial Kentucky Collegiate Classic over the weekend at Eastland Lanes.
With the wins, both UPIKE programs capture their second straight MSC Regular-Season Championships and will be the top seeds at the conference tournament in Louisville, Ky., on Feb. 21-22. This is just the second year bowling has been recognized as a conference sport.
In five team games and three Baker sets, the Bear men tallied 7,699 total pins to take top honors, while Morehead State (Ky.) was second with 7,577 and Martin Methodist took third place with a score of 7,217.
Josh Encarnacion was the Bears’ top individual, with a score of 634 after adding up his three high games to take third place overall. Other top UPIKE finishers include Anthony Scerati in 16th place with a 615 score and John Bartoslewicz in 21st place with 594 pins.
Ohio State’s Chris Weber won the individual title with a score of 662, followed by Matt Chalk of Morehead State in second with a score of 596.
On the women’s side, Pikeville was the only team to top 7,000 points, winning the team title with a score of 7,088. Bellarmine (Ky.) was second with 6,774 pins and Emmanuel College rounded out the top three with a score of 6,478.
The Bears were well represented at the top of the individual leaderboard with the top three finishers. Rebecca Chase led the way with a score of 1,032, Christina Halen was second with 1,026 and Alexia Vescovo took third with 1,016 pins.
