UPike's Simpson earns Team USA women's bowling spot

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – University of Pikeville women’s bowling junior KT Simpson is the newest member of Team USA after taking fourth place in the 2014 Junior Gold Tournament that began with a staggering field of 630 bowlers last week.

By advancing all the way to the semifinals, Simpson earned a spot on the national team, joining Kayla Bandy, Kim Yioulos, Jennifer Wright, Ashley Galante and Sarah Germano as former Pikeville student-athletes to make Team USA.

For Simpson, it’s been a successful last few months which started with her leading UPIKE to the finals of the xBowling ITC’s for a second straight season. The Boise, Idaho native was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player despite the Bears falling to Robert Morris (Ill.) in the championship round.

At the Junior Gold’s, Simpson advanced through three rounds of qualifying, followed by two more rounds of advancers before taking part in the final match-play bracket.

Competing in Buffalo, N.Y., Simpson defeated Jessica Mellott 369-350 in the first round and Chenoa Rhoades 412-317 in the second, before losing 401-385 to eventual national champion Breanna Clemmer in the semifinals.
