WISE, Va. - Head Coach Dewey Lusk and his staff announced the signing of six more future UVa-Wise football players on Wednesday. Von Purvis, Robert Baird, Trenton Davis, Shannon Adams, Mekyah Davis and Chris McCall join six other future Cavaliers as members of the 2014 recruiting class.
Purivs is a 5-10, 189 pound tailback who played at North Stafford High School for Head Coach Joe Mangano. While at North Stafford, Purvis was a three-year starter at tailback and linebacker as he earned all-district, all-region, and all-state accolades during his prep career. He is the son of Channing and Triege Heck.
A 6-3, 300 pound offensive lineman from Thomas Edison High School, Robert Baird was a first-team all-district and second-team all-region honoree. A two-way player, Baird was a three-year starter on the offensive line and a two-year starter on the defensive line for Head Coach Anthony Parker. He is the son of Bill and Suzie Baird.
Strasburg High School’s Trenton Davis was a first-team all-district and second-team all-region selection while playing for Head Coach Mark Roller. A 6-0, 270 pound defensive lineman, Davis was a four-year starter at Strasburg. He is the son of Ariana Rutz.
An all-district and all-region selection for Head Coach Tom Crigger at Twin Valley High School, Shannon Adams spent time at quarterback, tailback, linebacker and safety for the Panthers. A complete student-athlete, the 6-1, 205 pound utility man currently has a 4.6 grade point average. He is the son of David and Linda Adams.
A four-year starter at tailback, Mekyah Davis earned all-district and all-region honors under the direction of Head Coach Travis Turner at Union High School. The 5-9, 185 pound back currently boasts a 4.0 grade point average. He is the son of Geamil and Cressida Davis.
Josh McCall comes to UVa-Wise after being a two-year starter on both the offensive and defensive line for Head Coach Terry Martin at Lee High School. He is the son of Chris and Lena McCall.
