Athens, WVa. – UVa-Wise scored on its first possession and led by as many as 17 points en route to a 70-61 victory over Concord on Tuesday. Senior Charlotte Reasor led the way for the victorious Cavaliers with 13 points and 13 rebounds as the visitors shot 54.9 percent from the field.
Reasor paced a quartet of UVa-Wise players who finished in double figure scoring. Chelsea Cluesman continued her streak of 20 or more points in a game with a team-high 23 points on ten of 11 shooting. In addition, MaKenzie Cluesman, 13 and Katie Jo Lester, 10 also posted double digit scoring efforts. Overall, the Cavs shot 50 percent from the three point line while limiting the Mountain Lions to 38.5 percent from distance and 35.7 percent from the field. UVa-Wise also enjoyed an advantage on the glass by out-rebounding Concord 39-33.
In a losing effort, Tanisha Williams led all scorers with 24 points as she drained ten of 13 free throw attempts. Amanda Smith also chipped in 18 points for Concord, the guard also collected seven rebounds.
With the win, UVa-Wise improves to 2-7 on the season while Concord drops to 2-4. The victory ends a nine game season opening road trip for the Cavs. The school will play its first home game of the season on Thursday when the University of Rio Grande visits the David J. Prior Convocation Center for a 6:00 p.m. tip.
