UVa-Wise volleyball picked 12th in MEC poll

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WYMT) - Wheeling Jesuit is the unanimous favorite of the Mountain East Conference coaches to win the first-ever MEC volleyball title.

WJU collected all 12 first-place votes from the coaches. The Cardinals enter the season ranked 18th in the country in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.

Head Coach Kristen Salyer's UVa-Wise Cavaliers were selected to finish 12th in the 12 team league. Coach Salyer will field one of the younger squads in recent history with no seniors on the roster. Eight freshmen will make their collegiate debut this season for the Red and Gray as the team will rely on a five member junior class that returns key contributors Brittni Altmann and Veronica Sanchez.
The Cavs will kick off the 2013 season on September 5 when the team travels to take on Brevard at 6:30 pm.
