GAFFNEY, S.C. (WYMT) - UVa-Wise women’s lacrosse Head Coach Meghan Dennehy will be inducted in the Limestone College for her accolades as a player.
A 2004 graduate of Limestone College, Dennehy was one of the most prolific players in program history at a time when it was taking the steps to become a national power. She helped lead the Saints to a 42-14 record during her four years and the team's first ever NCAA Division II Tournament appearance.
A three-time IWLCA All-American with First-Team honors in 2004 and Second-Team recognition in 2003 and 2002, Dennehy still ranks second in career goals per game (2.70) and shots per game (5.48), third in groundballs (172) and groundballs per game (3.07) and fourth in goals (151). Her 193 points rank seventh most in Saints history and her 78 groundballs in 2004 is the most ever. Her goals (3.41) and groundballs (4.59) per game average for that same season are fourth and fifth most, respectively.
An offensive presence, Dennehy increased her goal and point totals every year, capping with 58 goals, 14 assists and 72 points as a senior in 2004. That season she led Limestone to a program best 13-4 record and the first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in team history. She was also one of the first All-Conference selections in club history when she was chosen as a Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference First-Team selection in 2004, the first year the league sponsored the sport. Dennehy also helped lead Limestone to the first three 10-plus win seasons in program history.
She was hired this summer as the first women’s lacrosse coach in Cavalier history.
