St. Catharine, Kentucky - UVa-Wise led for most of Thursday’s Mid-South contest at St. Catharine but the visiting Cavaliers found themselves knotted in a 7-7 tie going to the ninth inning. From there, Brian King continued his hot hitting as the junior left fielder belted a two RBI single to left field giving UVa-Wise a 9-7 lead. Senior Chris Smith retired the Patriots in order in the bottom half of the frame after allowing an inherited runner to score in the eighth. The win was the fourth of the season for the Castlewood, Virginia native.
In total, four Cavaliers had multi-hit days; leading the pack was Tommy Meir who raised his average above .390 with three hits, three RBIs, and a run scored. Brett Hylton and Brian King also contributed two hits and two RBIs each in the victory.
The win was the sixth consecutive for UVa-Wise overall and the fifth consecutive Mid-South win. The victory improves the Cavaliers to 22-22 on the year and 8-10 in league action.
