Posted: Mon 9:58 PM, Dec 19, 2011

Wise, Virginia - More than 2,000 students from Wise County Public Schools showed up on Monday to watch the home standing Cavaliers of UVa-Wise post a 90-54 victory over the visiting Crusaders of Cincinnati Christian College.

Tabbed as “Kids Day”, the event allowed local students to come visit the newly constructed Convocation Center for free while also enjoying free soda and popcorn.

The Cavs led wire to wire in the victory and had built a 49-23 lead by intermission. Several players enjoyed a big day for UVa-Wise as Travis Berry, 19, Josh Jordan 19, and Darius Smith, 15 all scored in double figures. Smith added seven rebounds and six assists while Jordan grabbed nine rebounds and blocked two shots. The Crusaders Greg Howard led all scorers with 26 points and 13 rebounds.

UVa-Wise will return to action on New Year’s Eve when the team travels to East Carolina University. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m.; results of the event can be found online at www.uvawisecavs.com
