Union remains at No. 18 in latest NAIA poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second week in a row, Union is the 18th-ranked team in the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25, the national office announced Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 2-0 Appalachian Athletic Conference) received 133 total voting points, 15 back of No. 17 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) and one ahead of No. 19 Valley City State (S.D.).

Concordia (Neb.) has claimed the top spot in the second edition of the NAIA Coaches' Top 25. The Bulldogs collected all 12 first place-votes and 312 points for its third-straight No. 1 ranking.

Concordia defeated Midland (Neb.), 110-65, on Nov. 27 to start the week. The Bulldogs continued its winning ways on Dec. 1 with an 80-76 victory over then-No. 4 Morningside (Iowa). With the pair of wins the Bulldogs are tied for the NAIA best 10-game winning streak.

Moving up a spot to No. 2 is Indiana Wesleyan with 302 points. Morningside moved up one position to 3 with 289 points. Falling two spots this week is No. 4 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) collecting 278 points. The Bobcat's lost to William Woods (Mo.), 72-64, on Nov. 27. Rounding out the top five is Briar Cliff (Iowa) notching 277 points.

Making the biggest jump this week was College of Idaho moving from No. 24 to No. 22. The Lady Yotes won both their games last week as they defeated Warner Pacific (Ore.), 71-54, on Nov. 30 and Concordia (Ore.), 86-57, on Dec. 1.

Joining the Top 25 are No. 23 Roosevelt (Ill.) and No. 24 Southwestern (Kan.). Roosevelt is currently on a five game-winning streak and went 2-0 last week with wins over Indiana Northwest, 82-71, and Trinity Christian (Ill.), 90-62. Southwestern rejoins the poll after falling out last week. The Moundbuilders were 2-0 last week defeating then-No. 23 Friends (Kan.) 80-63 and Kansas Wesleyan, 85-56.

Falling out of the Coaches' Poll was: Friends (No. 23) and Hastings (Neb.) (No. 25).

Eleven of the 13 Division II women's basketball conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Crossroads League with five ranked teams. The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference follow with four teams each.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The third regular-season poll will be announced on Dec. 11.

Union returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Cincinnati-Clermont at 5:30 p.m.
