Union Women's Soccer: Dalmedico, Weber earn AAC honors

MONTREAT, N.C. - Union College's Aline Dalmedico was named the 2012 Appalachian Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Year, with Helen Weber collecting the league's Golden Boot award, headlining six Lady Bulldogs who were named to the All-AAC Women's Soccer Teams Thursday.

Earning first team honors were forward Weber, midfielders Dalmedico and Sofie Jorgensen, and defender Casey Camargo. Goalie Stephanie Burton was named to the AAC's second team, while Kayse Cornett was named to the third team.

Weber, a sophomore, earned the AAC's Golden Boot ending the year as the league's leading scorer. In all, she's scored 10 goals in 17 matches played, while also adding five assists to record a 25 point total. This is the second straight year that Weber has been named to an All-AAC team, as she earned a spot on the second team last year.

Dalmedico, a sophomore who transferred into Union in the offseason, is not only one of the AAC's leaders in shots, but the NAIA's. In all, Dalmedico has taken 114 shots from the field on the year, a 7.13 per game clip, which is the second highest mark in the country. She's also taken 54 shots on goal, a 3.38 per game average, which is the fifth highest mark in the NAIA. Dalmedico also added 11 goals, and three assists for a 25 point total.

Jorgensen, a junior, earns a spot on the All-AAC team for the second straight season after being one of Union's offensive leaders once again in 2012. For the year, she has scored 11 goals, and added six assists for a total of 28 points. She also scored two game-winning goals on the season, as well.

Camargo, a senior, earns a spot on the All-AAC team for the first time in her career. She has led the UC defensive unit all season, making a start in each of the 17 matches the Lady Bulldogs have played to date. In all, the Lady Bulldogs defense has allowed just 24 goals on the season.

Burton, also a senior, also earned a spot on the All-AAC team for the first time in her career, after a solid season in between the pipes for Union. She has made 87 total saves (a 5.12 save per game average) in 16 matches played, recording a goals against average of 1.53. She also notched five shutout victories on the season, as well.

Cornett, a sophomore, earns a spot on the All-AAC team for the second straight year, taking a spot on the third team as a defender. She's played and started in all 17 matches on the year for the Lady Bulldogs.

The AAC also honored student-athletes for their work in the classroom, naming the 2012 All-Academic Team. For Union, Camargo, Jorgensen, Weber, Jessica Frisby, and Jenn Sckirl were named to the team.

The Union College women's soccer team returns to action tomorrow, traveling to top-seeded Montreat (N.C.) for an AAC Tournament semifinal contest. The match is set to start at 2 p.m.
