Union sweeps AAC baseball weekly awards

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Trey Alexander and Nelson Price, both of Union, are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

This is the first-ever weekly honors for both Alexander and Price.

The duo helped Union to a 3-1 week, including an 8-4 win at No. 21 Campbellsville (Ky.).

Alexander, a freshman from Glasgow, Ky., went 2-0 on the week, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks with one strikeout in 11 innings pitched. He got the start against Campbellsville and allowed an unearned run on one hit and two walks as Union posted the 8-4 decision. He tossed five innings in relief against Virginia Intermont as the Bulldogs won 13-4.

On the year, Alexander is 4-0 with a 1.86 ERA. He has 10 strikeouts and 12 walks in 29 innings pitched.

Price, a sophomore from Burkesville, Ky., extended his team-best hit streak to 10 games as he hit .500 with two doubles, a home run and 10 RBIs last week. He also scored six runs. Price has batted .461 (18-of-39) during the last 10 games with five doubles, eight runs scored, one home run and 15 RBIs. He has had at least two hits in seven of the 10 games.

For the season, Price is hitting .355 with eight doubles, four home runs and 31 RBIs.

Union is 23-16 overall and 9-9 in the AAC.

The Bulldogs play host to Georgetown (Ky.) Tuesday at 3 p.m.
