ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union junior Lindsey Waters is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This is the second week in a row the Lady Bulldog received the award.
The 6-foot-1 forward/center averaged 26 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in helping Union to two conference victories last week. The Lady Bulldogs held on for a 72-69 road win over Bluefield (Va.) before upending No. 8 Tennessee Wesleyan 63-55 at home.
Last week, Waters scored 27 points and had six rebounds in the win at Bluefield, shooting 10-for-16 from the field. She followed that performance with her fifth double-double of the season, registering 25 points and 11 rebounds versus Tennessee Wesleyan. Waters also blocked four shots and hit 59.4 percent (19 of 32) of her shots from the floor.
Waters leads the conference in scoring (20.67 points per game), rebounding (10.56 rebounds per game) and blocks (2.67 blocks per game). She ranks third in NAIA Division II in total blocks (24) and fifth in blocks per game. Waters is sixth in offensive rebounds per game (4.222), ninth in points per game and 10th in rebounds per game.
Union is 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in the AAC.
The Lady Bulldogs will next play Friday and Saturday in their own classic.
