ROCK HILL, SC -- Lincoln Memorial University junior forward Vincent Bailey (Jennings, Florida) was the co-recipient of the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week award along with with Tusculum's Keith Jumper, the league office announced early Tuesday afternoon. Bailey was also named the Railsplitter of the Week on Monday morning for his efforts on the court this past week.
Bailey, listed at 6'6" and a forward, tallied a pair of double-double performances to lead the 18th-ranked Railsplitters to two victories in South Atlantic Conference play this past week. The big man's opening act came on Wednesday evening, as he led the 'Splitters to a 75-51 win over Brevard College in Tex Turner Arena with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Bailey finished with an 80% shooting effort from the floor (8-10) while compiling an assist, a steal and a block in the victory over the Tornados.
On Saturday, Bailey closed out the week by tallying 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to highlight an 82-72 overtime victory at Lenoir-Rhyne University. Vincent was, once again, strong from the field, as he notched a 58.3% mark (7-12) en route to his 15 points, while adding a block and an assist in the win in Hickory, North Carolina.
Vincent Bailey has been one of the headliners of the Railsplitters' attack this season, as the junior ranks 14th in the SAC in scoring (13.0 per), third in rebounding (9 per) and seventh in field-goal percentage (55.2%). With two-consecutive double-double outings, Bailey pushed his total to six in the 2012-13 campaign, which places him in the top-30 in all of the NCAA Division II in total double-doubles this season.
Bailey is the second member of the Lincoln Memorial University men's basketball team to earn South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors this season, as Wally Jones garnered that distinction back on December 17th.
The 18th-ranked Railsplitters improved to 12-2 on the season and 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference with the pair of victories this past week. They will look to remain on track in league play with a trip to Carson-Newman on Wednesday evening (8 pm) before returning home on Saturday, January 26th to face the unbeaten Bulldogs of Wingate University (8 pm).
