HARROGATE, TN -- Vincent Bailey was named the Railsplitter of the Week for the week ending on January 20th, the Lincoln Memorial University athletic department announced Monday morning.
Bailey, a 6'6" junior forward hailing from Jennings, Florida, came to realize this honor after playing a pivotal role in a perfect 2-0 week for the Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team this past week.
On Wednesday evening, Bailey notched an 18-point, 10-rebound performance in the Railsplitters' commanding 75-51 victory over the Brevard College Tornados in Tex Turner Arena. Vincent connected on eight of his 10 shot attempts, dished out an assist, recorded one steal and a block to headline the 'Splitters' triumphant effort.
Bailey continued his strong play on Saturday evening, as the big man tallied his second-consecutive double-double and his sixth of the season with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to play an instrumental part in the Railsplitters' thrilling 82-72 overtime victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina. He nailed home seven of his 12 shot attempts and added a block and an assist in the win on the road.
For the season, Bailey is averaging an even 13 points per game, which ranks 14th in the South Atlantic Conference, and nine rebounds per game, placing him third in the SAC in that category. Bailey is firing at a 55.2% clip this season which notches him in seventh among all eligible players in the league.
The 18th-ranked Railsplitters improved to 12-2 on the season and 5-1 in the South Atlantic Conference with the pair of victories this past week. They will look to remain on track in league play with a trip to Carson-Newman on Wednesday evening (8 pm) before returning home on Saturday, January 26th to face the unbeaten Bulldogs of Wingate University (8 pm).
