Volleyball earns fifth straight AVCA team academic award

MOREHEAD, Ky. - For the fifth consecutive year, the Morehead State volleyball program has been awarded a Team Academic Award by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

"This is another great honor for our program," said MSU Head Coach Jaime Gordon. "Our staff always put a high priority on academics, and our players work extremely hard in the classroom as they make progress toward earning their degrees."

MSU has also won numerous other Team Academic Awards from the AVCA and the Ohio Valley Conference over the years. MSU was one of six OVC schools to earn the award this year.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

The Eagles compliled a 3.66 team GPA in 2011-12.
